MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police said they’re searching for a man who aimed a gun at a mail carrier in Binghampton.
It happened near Coleman and Baltic on Thursday around 12:30 p.m.
The mail carrier told police she had just jumped into her truck, put up her satchel and was sorting through some mail.
All of a sudden, she said a stranger in a black hoodie jumped in the truck as well and aimed a gun right at her.
Detectives said he demanded money and told her he robbed for a living, because he lost his job.
She told him she didn’t have any money, so he reportedly grabbed four packages and took off.
“The U.S. Postal police officers and detectives and Memphis police officers,” said neighbor Darterrio West. “Police were knocking on the doors for questions, and I was shocked, because I had never seen anything like that happen over here.”
The U.S. Postal Inspector Service is now leading the case.
A detective told WREG the suspect got away in a blue, four-door car possibly a 2001-2006 Toyota Matrix.
Meanwhile, the mail carrier is okay. Physically, that is.
Neighbors said she’s good at her job, and is a nice woman who is always smiling.
“I hope she stays strong,” said West. “We got her in our prayers. We hope everything goes well with her.”
With the holidays coming up, detectives want this guy caught soon.
WREG is told there is video of the getaway car. We are working to get that video.
