CORDOVA, Tenn. — A 5-year-old boy got the surprise of a lifetime Friday when he and his family went to a local car dealership for what he thought would be a scavenger hunt.

Turns out it was so much more for little Drew, who’s been battling a life-threatening illness.

Members of the Make-A-Wish Foundation were on hand at Wolfchase Toyota, where workers raised $6,000 for Drew and his family to go to the Caribbean island nation of Turks and Caicos.

His mom said she’s proud of her son.

“Drew showed us extreme bravery and strength, and I think us as a family learned a lot through treatment,” Shanna Birdsall said. “When you’re faced with something like saving a child’s life, nothing else matters.”

Drew just wrapped up two years of chemotherapy and beat leukemia.

The dealership takes part in a Make-a-Wish event every year.
