(Oxford, MS) Malco Theatres is expanding onto property adjacent to a 10-screen movie theatre and outdoor amphitheater it just acquired to create a Family Entertainment Center in the Oxford Commons development.

The new facility will include the theatre, amphitheater, a 26-lane bowling center, bar and restaurant, birthday and event rooms and a gaming area, which will feature a laser maze and bumper cars.

The company will remodel the theatre with new chair seats, an upgraded sound system and digital projection.

“Malco is very excited about bringing a second state of the art, all digital cinema and family entertainment center to the Oxford community. The end product will be something the community will be very proud to have and enjoy for many years to come”, said Jimmy Tashie, Executive VP of Theatre Operations.

Malco management says the digital projection systems will allow them to show concerts, operas, live theatre and sporting events.

Moviegoers will also have the opportunity to see more independent, foreign and smaller films, thanks to the additional screens.

The center will be at the corner of Sisk Avenue and Highway 7. The theatre area will be open by Labor Day.

Approximately one hundred people will be employed at the facility when it is completed.

Malco will acquire the property adjacent to the theatre and amphitheater from the Kenlan Development Company.

The Family Entertainment Center will be Malco’s second such facility. The first was Premier Lanes and Family Entertainment Center in Gonzales, LA.
