MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested on New Year’s Eve after he allegedly used a steak knife to attack a security officer who was talking to his girlfriend on Beale Street.

According to police, a security officer named Harvey Burks with the Downtown Memphis Commission was working Monday evening when a woman approached and began speaking with him.

That woman’s boyfriend, Antonio Spencer, reportedly became angry because the two were talking and pulled out a steak knife.

That’s when Spencer allegedly charged Burks, who was able to get out of the way without being hurt.

Spencer then allegedly slapped his girlfriend before being detained by Burks and other security officers.

Spencer was turned over to police. He’s charged with aggravated assault and domestic assault. He has been arrested for domestic violence before, according to court records.
