WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A rare West Memphis murder left one man dead and another in jail.

“I mean I know that’s some crazy *expletive*,” Marty Dollar said.

Dollar’s response was the only reaction some people had after hearing a man was murdered in an extended stay motel room over the weekend.

West Memphis police were called to the Extent A Suites on West Service Road around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers arrested William Brewer, who is a relative of an employee at WREG.

“You could tell that there was a lot of foul play,” an anonymous witness said.

The witness was too scared to show her face on camera because no one was convicted and punished for the crime.

The witness told WREG Brewer ran to her screaming that his roommate was dead.

She walked into what she described as a scary scene.

“I mean he was dead. He was dead,” the witness described. “There was a pillow by him. It was bloody. His nose was bloody.”

In an incident report obtained by WREG, Brewer told officers he had been roommates with the victim for two months and that he woke up from a nap to find him dead.

Still, police charged Brewer with First Degree Murder.

“If he done it, they need to — something need to be done about it,” Dollar said.

Neighbors said they feel unsafe, and this murder robbed them of their peace of mind.

“It’s very uneasy. I could usually get up and go get ice and stuff and now it’s like creepy to go get ice from the ice machine because this man died here,” the witness said.

WREG pushed for more answers from West Memphis Police, but they refused to release anymore information.

The captain over criminal investigations would only tell WREG this in an ongoing investigation.
