(Memphis) Two Memphis Police officers are recovering from injuries after one was punched in the face several times, and he and his partner were thrown through a glass window.
It happened outside B.B. King’s Blues Club on Beale Sunday morning.
Memphis Police said Jon Riley and his girlfriend were in a fight with other people outside the bar when two cops tried to break it up.
The officers were with the Entertainment District Unit and were wearing plain clothes.
Investigators said Riley became angry, punching Officer Shawn May in the face several times. Officer Brian Falatko tried to calm Riley down, but Riley grabbed Falatko and through him into a glass window.
Falatko was transported to the MED with serious head injuries where he was treated and released.
Investigators are now claiming both officers were pushed through the window.
Investigators said Riley was extremely drunk and was taken to jail on aggravated assault, assault, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting official detention.
“We saw a pedestrian wave down a police officer and say there’s a fight down the street,” said Tony Busekrus, who was on Beale when it happened. “I guess some people don’t know how to have a good time without going overboard.”
WREG went to Riley’s East Memphis home listed on court records.
His roommates said they haven’t heard from him since he bonded out of jail Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t want to speak out on his behalf,” said one roommate.
WREG left a phone number, but have yet to hear from Riley.
He is expected in court Monday morning.
The chaos happened 15 minutes after B.B. King’s closed.
No one at the bar wanted to comment on the incident.
Both officers involved have been with MPD since 2008.
They have only worked with the Entertainment District Unit.
