WYNNE, Ark. — “He’s sick,” J.W. Hirons said.

Justin Smith is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl and getting her pregnant.

“That — that makes it worse than ever,” Hirons said.

Wynne Police said doctors at a nearby hospital tipped them off about the sex abuse and pregnancy after treating the victim.

“An arrest was made very quickly Saturday after they gathered initial information,” Detective Mike Smith said.

Mike Smith said the man they locked up was charged with rape and endangering the welfare of a minor.

“We believe it was more than one time,” Mike Smith said. “He was charged with three counts.”

Detectives in Wynne are not releasing much information on the case, but the details of the child rape are even hard for them to hear.

“Good people — most people can’t fathom this type of behavior,” Mike Smith said. “Unfortunately, there’s evil people or sick people in the world.”

WREG learned this latest case marks the third child sex crime case Wynne police investigated in the past month.

“We’ve had two other child sex victims cases within the past month,” Mike Smith said. “We don’t know what to attribute it to, but it’s definitely a growing problem out there.”

Detectives urge parents now more than ever to talk to their children and report anything suspicious to the police department.

“Rapes such as that puts fear in the entire community,” Hirons said.

Justin Smith is locked up on a $500,000 bond. He will be back in court Oct. 2.
