Man charged with DUI after hitting police cruiser

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local man has been charged after hitting an Memphis Police cruiser early Monday morning.

“Scares me to death.”

D`Ann Huguley told WREG she travels this busy road every day with her children.

“That`s one of the main concerns these days is people driving under the influence,” she said. “Everybody knows if you drink and you drive then you run the risk of hurting someone else besides yourself and it shouldn’t be tolerated.”

Police said an officer was heading Westbound on Highway 64 when the suspected DUI driver pulled out of the Bahama Breeze near the mall hitting a squad car before three this morning.

Driver Steven Hale said the entire event was unfortunate.

“It definitely needs to end,” he told WREG. “In this day in age it`s difficult to stop folks from drinking and driving.”

The front of the squad car suffered heavy damage and a wheel came off the SUV.

The officer is expected to be okay.
