MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Charges have been filed against the man police say killed a Memphis Police Officer and shot three other men.

Justin Welch, 21, is charged with first degree murder and three counts of attempted first degree murder as well as other charges.

Officer Verdell Smith was killed when he was hit by a car police say was driven by Welch.

Police say he shot two men outside Westy’s in the Pinch District and then an employee of Bass Pro Pyramid in the store parking lot.

The 21-year-old Bass Pro employee is out of the hospital, while the other two men are still in critical condition.
