MONROE, La. — Quinton Tellis entered a guilty plea to unauthorized use of a credit card that belonged to a murdered ULM student on the first day of his trial in Monroe, Louisiana.
That information is being reported by KNOE-TV.
Ming-Chen Hsiao was found stabbed to death in her apartment in August of 2015.
While he was not charged with the murder of Hsaio, prosecutors said he is the only suspect.
Tellis waived his extradition rights to Mississippi where he will face fist degree murder charges for the death of Jessica Chambers in December 2014.
District Attorney John Champion was in Louisiana for the trial.
Champion told our Caitlin Alexander it is likely Tellis will be processed into the Louisiana Department of Corrections, then the process of extradition to Mississippi will begin.
“Obviously, we’ve got to get ready for trial. It’s a lot sooner, you know, then I thought we’d get him back,” he said.
Chambers’ mother agreed. She said she plans to be in the courtroom for every second of Tellis’ Mississippi court proceedings.
“Truth is, I don’t really know of anything that could really be justice for what was done to her. Nothing we can do here on earth,” Chambers said.
He was arrested for using Hsiao’s debit card to make cash withdrawals.
Tellis was sentenced to five years for unauthorized use of a credit card, however, since Tellis was declared a habitual offender, his sentence doubled to ten years.
Around 98% of her body was burned.
She later died from her injuries.
