MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man is in jail after police say he raped a 10-year-old girl.

Francisco Trevino-Rodriguez, 30, was arrested early Saturday morning.

Police said it happened Friday night at a house on Morning Vista Drive near Whitten Road.

According to court records, the victim’s sibling told another adult that Trevino-Rodriguez was in the bathroom with the girl.

That adult went to check on them just as Trevino-Rodriguez was coming out, and saw the 10-year-old still in the bathroom, crying.

Investigators say the girl told the adult Trevino-Rodriguez raped her.

“That’s awfully scary,” neighbor Austin Williams said. “Honestly, I would have never guessed that he would be accused for something like that, and it makes me a little uncomfortable to be across the street from something like that.”

Neighbors don’t know Trevino-Rodriguez well and said he hasn’t lived on the block for long.

“I haven’t really ever seen anything strange. He seemed like just a normal person. I’m a car enthusiast, so I see him working on his car. … I see his kids outside playing with the dogs and riding their bikes up and down this street.”

Trevino-Rodriguez denied the rape to police and, according to the arrest affidavit, voluntarily gave detectives a DNA sample.

“Hearing that happened is shocking, honestly,” neighbor Kareem Khudheir said. “Even though I don’t have kids, I have little siblings, and that’s one of the reasons they don`t go outside.”
