DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A shocking story out of Dyersburg, where a man was accused of torturing and killing a small cat.
Police said Brian Flippin intentionally killed a cat named “Olaf”, Saturday afternoon and left it to be discovered by the little girl who loved the cat.
The question is why did it happen?
Whatever the reason, the crime left an entire family devastated.
“What kind of person does this to somebody’s pet? I mean it was like a family member,” said Kim Rose, the owner of “Olaf.”
Rose was in tears over the death of her pet.
The black and white kitty was found dead, and a neighbor was charged with the gruesome crime.
“I got a phone call on Saturday saying that a neighbor witnessed my other neighbor, that lives behind me, torturing and killing my cat,” Rose said.
Witnesses told Dyersburg Police that 18-year-old Brian Flippin was the one responsible for killing “Olaf.”
Flippin was charged with felony animal cruelty.
Rose said her neighbor saw Flippin “sling” the cat around by its hind legs, throw it and kick it.
She said what reportedly happened next was beyond belief.
“He was beating it with some kind of tool, a wrench or something. And then he walks this way and grabs it by its neck. And I guess he snapped its neck and threw it underneath the truck,” said Rose.
To make matters worse, the cat’s lifeless body was found by Rose’s nine-year old granddaughter, Madison.
“That it must have been horrible… what he went through,” said Madison.
The youngster didn’t understand why anyone would do such a thing to her sweet cat.
“He was nice. He wasn’t mean. He would play and he would rub on you like cats do,” she said.
Madison and her family buried the cat in a small grave.
There was some comfort in knowing “Olaf” has an almost identical sister named “Elsa”.
Still, Madison said Flippin was a bad man.
“He should go to jail for a long time,” she said.
No one knows what provoked the man.
Flippin was released from jail on bond and scheduled to be back in court in October.
