MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After more than three years, a man has been convicted for assaulting a police officer.

In May 2012, Dewayne Anthony Jones, 34, struck Officer L. Bockhold in the face until he lost consciousness. Jones was being booked into jail on a misdemeanor charge; he had been taken into custody after refusing to cooperate with Memphis Police officers during a traffic stop.

Bockhold suffered a concussion from the incident.

Jones, of West Memphis, Arkansas, was convicted Friday and awaits a sentencing hearing in October. He faces three to six years in prison, according to the Office of the District Attorney General.

Jones is also involved in other pending cases, including rape of a child, incest, retaliation against a witness and aggravated sexual battery.

He is being held in Shelby County Jail on a $1.2 million bond.

Jones has been on the other side of law enforcement as well; he used to be an officer with the West Memphis Police Department. He was fired for administrative reasons, such as not following the rules or showing up for work on time, WMPD Chief Donald Oakes told WREG in 2012.
