MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of fatally shooting a man on Beale Street last March has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
Quaverre Rogers was initially charged with second-degree murder, but he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Rogers was accused of shooting Damein Hawkins last March outside of Jerry Lee Lewis’ Cafe and Honky Tonk just before 2 a.m.
A witness on the scene said she was standing near Hawkins when the shooting happened. She claimed the entire incident started with a spilled drink.
“The tall dude knocked the dude with the beard cup out of his hand. When he knocked the cup out of his hand, he started swinging,” she said.

Witnesses described the altercation as a “tussle” and claimed the suspect abruptly shot the victim in the stomach.
“He literally pulled the gun out with no hesitation. Like, boom right then and there,” said the woman. “It could’ve easily been resolved. Like, you didn’t have to knock the cup out of his hand. You didn’t have to pull the gun out and shoot him. Everything could’ve went another direction.”
Rogers is now being held without bond. He will be sentenced on April 11.
