MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead following an overnight shooting in Binghampton.
People living near the intersection of Walnut Grove and Holmes Road describe the area as quiet.
“Stuff like that don’t happen around here,” a neighbor said. “It doesn’t. It’s very quiet. Very, very quiet.”
The neighbor didn’t want to be identified but told WREG that she was having a movie night with her daughter Saturday when their peace was disturbed.
“We just heard like a bunch of gunshots,” she said. “So, I just dived on top of my daughter.”
Once the gunshots were over, she said she stepped outside to find a man lying in the middle of the road with a woman desperately trying to save his life.
She says eventually paramedics arrived and tried to do the same thing.
“They just kept working on him right there and then you heard the family scream and was like, ‘He was gone,” she said. “We sat and we prayed. I don’t like to see nothing like that happen to nobody.”
Memphis Police say the shooting happened just before 1 a.m.
The victim died on the scene.
The neighbor said before the shooting she heard two cars speeding past her home.
“You heard one car going down like speeding and then the other car came behind and you just heard so many gunshots,” she said.
Memphis Police have not released much information on the suspect or the motive.
However, they say the suspect is known.
“Shouldn’t nobody have to die,” the neighbor said. “It’s just not right.”
