Man from Olive Branch given $1 million bond after allegedly shooting victim in the chest

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — An 18-year-old from Olive Branch is behind bars after he allegedly shot a man in the chest early Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews received a shots fired call just before 1 a.m. Tuesday from the 9300 block of Stateline Road.

As officers were combing the area, searching for answers, they received a call from Olive Branch Methodist Hospital saying a man had been rushed in with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police later determined the two incidents were connected.

The victim told investigators he was sitting in a car when a man, later identified as 18-year-old Rodney Smith of Olive Branch, approached his car and shot him.

An arrest warrant was issued for Smith, charging him with aggravated assault with a weapon or other means to produce death.

His bond was set at $1 million, and he’s scheduled to appear in court on February 18.
