(Lexington, Miss.) Two police officers are on administrative leave after a shooting at a Mississippi church.

Cacedrick White, 26, was shot outside of a church in Lexington which is an hour north of Jackson.

Police said the situation began when the pastor of Asia Missionary Baptist Church was voted out but refused to leave. The incident led to a fight.

Police said White was called to the scene where his father is a deacon at the church.  They said he was armed.

“A shot was fired by the suspect’s weapon. At that time, the officers defended themselves by using deadly force,” said Chief Martin Roby with the Lexington Police Department.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.
