Man killed in gruesome hit and run in North Memphis

NORTH MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are searching for the person who ran over and killed a bicyclist in North Memphis.

The hit and run happened along TN 300 and Thomas around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The victim’s body was found under an overpass near mile marker 16.

A source told WREG it was an extremely gruesome scene.

Police said the vehicle was going northbound on Thomas at the 101 connector, and the cyclist was also going north in the emergency lane.

“I’d be off pushing it myself. I wouldn’t be trying to ride a bicycle down that highway,” one driver, Kenneth Asher said.

The man’s name has not been released, and police do not have a make or model on the vehicle they say hit him.

Drivers like James Chambers said it makes them sick to their stomachs.

“I couldn’t see myself doing that. If I accidentally hit them, I wouldn’t even keep going. I’d stop,” Chambers said.

Chambers said he is also eager for police to find whoever did this.

“They need to get caught! I hope they do.”
