Man killed in Munford shooting; one person in custody

MUNFORD, Tenn. — Police in Munford confirm a man is in custody after another man was shot and killed at a home near the town’s post office.

The shooting happened at 12:40 p.m. at 302 Bass Street.

The victim was taken to Baptist Tipton hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The TBI, which is in charge of the investigation, has not released the victim’s name or the suspect’s name yet.

But the shooting was already the talk of the town by the time most people were arriving home.

“I wasn’t even at home. I was gone grocery shopping, then I come back home and this is what I come home to. I was like, ‘Whoa!’” said neighbor Angel DeLancey.

“I’m really scared now to even live there because look what happened there. Imagine what could happen at my house, the next house or this house,” DeLancey added.

Munford police say this is the town’s first homicide of the year. Residents couldn’t hide their shock.

“Nothing like this has ever happened,” said Bobby Joe Elleman, who’s lived on a street near the shooting scene for 39 years.

“This is very unusual. Munford is a very quaint and quiet little town,” he said.

But as quaint and tight-knit as Munford is, no one WREG spoke with knew anything about the people who live in the white house surrounded by crime tape.

“I don’t even see them outside really,” said DeLancey.

By evening, police officers and TBI agents were gearing up for what could be a long, cold night of investigating. Melanie and George Sain brought them hot coffee.

“Just something that people ought to do once in a while,” said Melanie Sain.
