Man killed in Whitehaven shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead following a shooting in the 1900 block of East Raines in Whitehaven Sunday night, Memphis Police said.

Officers responded to Graceland Farms Apartments at 9:15 p.m. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspect reportedly left the scene on foot.

At one point, police believed the victim’s baby was with him when he was shot.

They said they couldn’t find the mother, so they issued a City Watch for one-year-old Charles Bowman Junior.

Early Monday morning, officers found the child safe with the grandmother.

“It’s horrible,” said Jimmy Smith.

He’s tired of the violence and the amount of guns in the neighborhood and citywide.

“A gun makes that kid feel invincible. You can’t even talk to them. That’s why I’m careful in these apartments,” he said.

Police tell WREG they are amping up patrols in the area as they look for the shooter.
