NEW YORK — “I’m sending you this to share with you a story about one of your biggest fans, Ronnie Brower,” said Joe Bufano. “[He] has made some huge changes in his life, and he’s got an amazing story.” Seven hundred days ago, Ronnie Brower weighed 675 pounds. Drugs, alcohol and morbid obesity controlled his life so much he found himself jobless and unable to even leave his home. Then one day, he received the news he didn’t want to hear. His doctor sat him down and told him he would not live to see 35 if something didn’t change. That was then. Now, the 30-year-old is 250. Do the math and that’s 425 pounds lost. So how did he do it? Eating right, exercising and continuously replaying the songs of his favorite singer: Taylor Swift. “The only thing that would give him the energy, or something to look forward to, during his deepest, darkest times were these upbeat songs,” Bufano told People Magazine. “It kept him buying into life.” In celebration of the milestone, Bufano bought his friend tickets to the singer’s concert in Cleveland on June 3, but he’s hoping Swift herself can make it memorable. In a YouTube video documenting Bower’s story from day 1, Bufano asked Swift for her help. He’s not expecting much but said he at least had to try. And it seems social media is right there with him. In a week, the 8-minute video was viewed more than 1.5 million times, and even started a Twitter hashtag #RonnieWeightLoss. “It’s pretty unreal,” Brower said about people’s response to his story. “Even if I don’t get the chance to meet Taylor Swift, I feel like I can really inspire people who are the same boat that I was in with my story. It feels incredible.” “When you meet him, you can’t help but just see that he’s so determined and incredible, you can’t help but love the guy. He’s a big teddy bear,” Bufano added. “Well, he’s a small teddy bear now!”
