MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was charged and a man rushed to the hospital after a shooting Tuesday afternoon at a restaurant in Cordova.
Police made the scene around 5:20 p.m. at On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina at 8101 Giacosa Place.
An 18-year-old employee was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
Jessica Adams had been arrested and charged with facilitation of a felony-aggravated assault.
According to police, managers said Adams, who was an employee at the restaurant, was involved in a fight with the other employee.
She allegedly called her boyfriend, the alleged shooter, to come to the restaurant to shoot the employee. The boyfriend was not named in the police statement.
Records say a manager and a witness sitting at the bar tried to follow the couple out of the restaurant, but the boyfriend pointed the gun and threatened to kill them.
A witness also said after seeing the initial fight, she heard Adams on the phone saying, “Where’s my boyfriend?” and to come kill the people she was fighting with.
One of the victims also told police the couple had sent threatening text messages in the past.
It’s unclear what the fight was over, but police said they are looking for the man they believe who fired the gun, who is only listed as being named “Tyler.”
On the Border released a statement to WREG saying, “Our utmost priority is providing the safest dining environment possible for our guests and team members. We are grateful that no guests were harmed yesterday and are hopeful that our team member recovers quickly. We are cooperating fully with the Memphis Police Department as they investigate this incident. Because this is an open investigation, we are not able to answer any questions at this time.”
