MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a shooting outside a nightclub near Memphis International Airport.
The shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. Monday at Pure Passion on East Brooks Road.
Police said the 25-year-old man walking to the parking lot to get something out of his car when another man began hitting him from behind. When the victim tried to run away, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him in the abdomen. He then grabbed the man’s cash and fled the scene.
When first responders arrived on the scene, the victim was laying in the middle of the street.
Police don’t have a clear description of the shooter but they believe he drove away in a silver sedan.
Authorities say this is the fourth shooting at Pure Passion since last October.
Pure Passion was shut down for 30 days in November due to a series of shootings here.
The District Attorney’s Office told them to put up cameras connected to the real crime center and to get more security guards. It reopened a month later.
District Attorney General Amy Weirich released a statement saying, “The MPD is investigating this latest shooting incident. While the club owners have taken measures to address security concerns, our office will continue to work with MPD to ensure the measures taken are effective.”
