MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police booked a man into jail Sunday for his alleged involvement in hitting a 1-year-old with a car in North Memphis.

The accident in the 1300 block of Bryan Street sent the child to the hospital Saturday.

WREG confirmed Cortriel Cannon, 38, is involved some way in the incident. A police report doesn’t state whether or not Cannon was the driver.

Initial reports stated a blue Buick left the scene.

WREG found a tan Buick with a matching license plate to the police report parked at Cannon’s home on Bryant. There was no apparent damage to the front of the car.

No one answered the door at Cannon’s home Monday.

MPD told WREG the child was transported to Le Bonheur in critical condition.

People claiming to be the child’s family said that was never the case and the girl was reportedly not seriously hurt.

“She is alright,” Carolyn Fields, the girl’s grandmother, said.

The girl’s family said the 1-year-old is back home.

This incident landed Cannon with a driving while license suspended/revoked/canceled charge, a financial responsibility charge, and no driver license charge.

WREG pulled Cannon’s record and found he is facing two current charges for driving with a revoked license.

Cannon has seven guilty convictions for driving with a license suspended/revoked/canceled, based on arrests between 2001 and 2013.

The District Attorney General’s Office said as with any other ongoing case, it is possible Cannon could face additional charges.
