MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted in a brutal 2017 kidnapping and murder was captured early Friday at a Memphis motel.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Michael McGehee, 28, was captured at the Red Roof Inn on Shelby Oaks Drive just after midnight.
McGehee is one of three men charged with the July 2017 murder of 60-year-old Robert Glidden.
Police say Glidden’s body was found next to a trash bin and drainage pond near Covington Pike.
Court documents say he had injuries all over his body and was beaten with a “fist, feet, bricks and other items” including a “Taser and handguns.”
Detectives believe he was tied with duct tape, stripped of his clothing, and stuffed into a trunk alive for hours until his body was dumped.
Two suspects, Eric Curry and Nicholas Waugh, were arrested in January 2018.
McGehee was initially charged as an accessory to the crime, but a grand jury indicted him on a charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping last fall.
He is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
McGehee reportedly lived with a man on Summit Street in Midtown, where neighbors told us they’ve been on edge.
“I have seen him before, but he has stayed in the house most of the time. He didn’t really come out a whole lot,” said a neighbor who last saw McGehee about three weeks ago.
Neighbors say they’ve talked to authorities and have seen law enforcement at the home multiple times.
It’s unclear how deputies found out McGehee was at the motel but say they had help from Memphis Police and DeSoto County deputies.
