MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting during a gas station robbery left one man dead in Forrest City, Arkansas, in 2024; police are still searching for the suspect who took his life.

Forrest City Police Department Chief Ronald Broussard said 29-year-old Malek Mohammed never stood a chance.

On May 11, there was a shooting at the Pure Gas Station on Washington Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the store clerk on the floor gasping for air behind the counter.

“When we got the call, and when we made it there, he had been shot several times,” said Broussard.

WREG obtained surveillance video of Mohammed in the store moments before the shooting occurred. Broussard says the video also showed the suspect walking into the gas station wearing a hoodie and mask over his face.

“As soon as he walked into the store, the store clerk said to him, ‘mask,’ because the mask was all the way to his eyes. He said, ‘mask,’ and he pulled it down,” said Chief Broussard.

Broussard said Mohammed was shot while a customer was standing at the counter.

“The store clerk did have a gun, on him, but he never got a chance to pull it,” said Broussard.

Investigators said after the subject shot Mohammed, he grabbed cash and walked out of the store. He was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive.

“What’s done in the dark, will soon come to the light. We will get you,” said Broussard.
