Manhunt underway for suspects who rammed DeSoto deputy’s cruiser while in stolen car

DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — DeSoto County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two suspects connected to being in a stolen car and ramming an officer’s car.

Authorities say the commotion started around 10:30 Thursday morning on Germantown Road in Olive Branch.

Deputies spotted a car that’d been reported stolen and tried to pull the driver over.

The suspects inside tried to get away from them, crashed into one of their patrol cars and ended up in a ditch.

“I did see the wreck, so I figured someone had wrecked and then run,” said neighbor Mary Kirkpatrick.

Deputies say the two suspects got out of the car and ran into the woods.

There were visible skid marks where the damaged patrol car was first parked on Collinswood Drive.

Deputies spent the majority of their morning searching an area off Germantown Road near Longwood Drive.

DeSoto County schools sent a statement saying they were locking the exterior doors of the Olive Branch Intermediate School as a precautionary measure while police searched nearby. Students still had a normal day inside.

“You don’t have much of this around here,” said neighbor John Key.

Neighbors said they were happy to see how many deputies were out looking for the suspects in the rainy, muddy conditions — hoping they get caught soon.

“They are obviously on top of it, so that’s good,” said Kirkpatrick. “We have lots of confidence in the local police.”

Olive Branch police are also helping out in the search.

There’s a perimeter set up where dogs are trying to track the suspects.
