(Memphis) There are new details in the MATA bus ride that ended with an arrest and about 20 Memphis City School students in trouble with their school.
We have video from the bus where students from Martin Luther King Academy started causing chaos.
It’s starts with a few curse words and a girl banging on the bus.
When the MATA driver can’t get control of the students, he calls for back up.
“For those of you who think it is a game, keep it up,” says a MATA worker.
But as the bus ride continued on, October 30, the students kept egging the driver on.
MATA says the driver couldn’t take it anymore, because he’s had disruptive rides with these South Memphis students for months.
“Go take the dumb s*** somewhere else,” said the driver.
Not knowing what else to do, he calls for police and security to confront the students at the North End Terminal.
Police tell the students they’ll have to find another way to get home.
One student was even arrested for not cooperating.
But what’s most concerning to MATA is that paying riders have had to constantly endure inappropriate behavior from students. In the video, four paying passengers can be seen on the bus before the MLK students get on and for the whole ride, you can see one elderly rider having to sit through the ordeal.
“It’s just crazy,” said Rider Brandon Williams.
Williams says he’s sat through it before, “They need to respect others and treat people they want to be treated.”
The principal of MLK said he was going to look over that surveillance video to see which students should be suspended. No word yet on if that’s happened.
