Midtown Memphis McDonald’s customer arrested for downloading child pornography

Robert Cliff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —   It was a Sunday afternoon and children were coming and going, when someone noticed Robert Cliff Jr. staring at his computer screen in the middle of a McDonald’s restaurant on Union Avenue.

According to a document WREG obtained, Robert Cliff Jr. was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor after officers saw explicit child porn on Cliff’s computer.

When they got him back to the police station, officers discovered he had more than 50 images in his possession and said the youngest was just 12-years-old.

He reportedly told investigators he was downloading the images while visiting the business.

Child porn is often shared on websites that seem innocent and that’s why it likely wasn’t flagged by McDonald’s software as being inappropriate.

“We will continue to make our restaurant a welcoming environment for families,” the owners of the McDonald’s said in a released statement on Monday.

WREG found out at one point, Cliff lived in a semi-vacant apartment in North Memphis, which is right next door to Kipp Collegiate.

Cliff was booked into jail on Monday and is expected to be in court on Tuesday.

His bond was set at $75,000.
