OXFORD, Miss. — The children broke down in tears as family members tried their best to comfort them.

It was hard for many to hold it together as loved ones and community members remembered six lives snatched away by tragedy.

“Each of these individuals who enjoyed life so much would want us to smile often and remember the great times we shared with them,” a family friend said.

Four of those killed were dentists.

Drs. Jason and Lea Farese, Dr. Michael and Kim Perry, and Dr. Austin and Angie Poole were killed after their plane crashed in Alabama last weekend.

Federal investigators are working to figure out what happened.

“They were wonderful parents, great community supporters. These were people of faith. These were people who had strong values,” a family friend explained.

The couples were known for giving back and doing good for others.

“He was — he was always very impressive. He’s a big personality. He was always very giving,” Jennifer Adair, a colleague of Dr. Perry, said.

People shared good memories that many hoped the victim’s children will never forget.

“To see these young children — 11 of them — without their parents for the rest of their lives here on this earth is gut-wrenching for anybody,” Gerald Gia said. “This is Oxford. These people love each other, and they’re going to come together. They’re going to see that these children get everything they need.”

In times like this, those in the Oxford community not only opens their arms, but also their hearts.

“Let’s honor them and their legacy by living lives with the same passion and commitment to make this world a better place.”

A memorial fund has been set up to support the children and remember the victims.
