MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tax season may be over, but one Memphis woman said she lost out on her return because the local tax company she used closed its doors before her money came.
The lights were on, but no one was home at the Tax Pro on Austin Peay Highway in Raleigh.
We talked to customers who called this a “shady business”, and it’s cost them thousands of dollars.
Senora Conway was searching for answers.
“They done duped me. They done took my money,” she said.
Everything seemed fine at first she explained until she got a letter from the IRS that said someone misfiled her taxes and used the wrong social security number.
She took it back to Tax Pro and they said they would fix it.
Conway said they told her, “We will re-do it, no problem. You should get your check in the next 4-weeks or so.”
Well, those four weeks came and went and still no money.
Now Tax Pro’s storefronts are closed, and when we tried to call the number on the card Conway had it didn’t connect.
Last year people came forward saying they took out a holiday loan through Tax Pro, and then the company used that information to file their taxes.
When we talked to Tax Pro, it said that was how they collected on defaulted loans, but couldn’t provide the documentation to prove it.
Conway said she’s worried she’ll never see her money.
“I’m afraid they filed my return and kept it,” she said.
Conway told WREG she learned her lesson, but she hoped she doesn’t have to wait until next year to cash in on her hard earned tax return.

Tax Pro representatives said the office on Austin Peay is open for appointments only.
To scheduled an appointment, call (901) 386-7757 and explain why you are calling.
They claimed they are strictly the middle man.
They file for you, but cannot control how quickly the return is processed and sent back to you.
