Memphis home declared a nuisance

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County District Attorney General has declared a Memphis home a nuisance.

The home is located in the 3100 block of Faxon Avenue, off Summer Avenue.

Halbert “Pop” Brown, 53, and his son Quinton Woolridge, 33, were said to be living in the home at the time.

Another man, 33-year-old John Lyons was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for theft.

The District Attorney General’s Office said the West Tennessee Drug Task Force began investigating the home in January.

“The complaints were drug sales, prostitution, and some dog animal cruelty,” said District Attorney General Public Information Officer Vince Higgins.

The home reportedly had cocaine sales and crack use.

The residents were also using stolen electricity.

Memphis Animal Services took seven pit bulls from the property.

Sirrell Thomas told WREG the dogs belonged to him, though he lived on a different street.

“We try to show them pictures. They drawing guns on us and tell us to move back,” Thomas said.

He claimed police shot at his dogs, though Higgins said no one used deadly force.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Brown has been convicted of selling drugs twice before while his son, who was on parole, had 7 drug convictions and another for reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

WREG pulled the home’s tax records to find out who owned the home and learned that man, Miller Douglas, lives in Texas.

Higgins said both the owner and the tenant are due in Environmental Court May 4th.
