MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “Happy Birthday baby. Happy Birthday!”
Family, friends, balloons. All the right ingredients for a perfect birthday, but there was one thing missing.
“It’s different because she’s not here,” said Deja Moore.
The birthday girl, Zeneatrice Crawford, would have been 42 on Sunday.
The mother of two’s body was found back in June behind a home on Whitney Avenue in Frayser. At the time, Crawford’s mother told us she believed her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Raymond Clark, was the killer.
“She was taken away from us, but the love is still here,” said Jamila Lee Boyd.
Crawford said he showed up at her house covered in blood and said she could hear Crawford’s children screaming from the trunk of his car. Those kids are still adjusting to life without their mom, but they’re not letting it hold them back.
“Her son, Kevin Crawford, is outstanding. Still on the honor roll.”
He also recently won his school spelling bee. Crawford’s daughter is also making good grades.
“They haven’t missed a beat with their education, and they have a good family support system.”
So they remember Zeneatrice Crawford at a time of year dedicated to giving thanks. They said they’ll forever be thankful for the kids she leaves behind as well as the lifetime’s worth of memories.
