MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Big names like Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon and Keith Richards are coming to Memphis this weekend for the Memphis Music Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony.
“I think that’s pretty exciting, and it’s good publicity instead of something negative,” Memphis resident Miranda Johnson said.
The Memphis Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony this Saturday is expected to be a sold-out event.
Christopher Gales got excited when he heard some of the big names coming to Memphis.
“It’s a big deal, definitely it’s a big deal,” he said.
“This year is as big as any with us inducting legends like Sam and Dave, Alberta Hunter, Charlie Rich,” said John Doyle, the executive director of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.
This is the fourth induction ceremony for the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. There are seven inductees this year, including Justin Timberlake.
Wednesday, executive director John Doyle said Jimmy Fallon will introduce him. Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards will induct Scotty Moore.
“This is one of those things Memphis should take great pride in because this is the essence of what our city’s about, these folks come to town because this is the city that created modern music,” Doyle said.
Local businesses said they’re expecting a boost this weekend. Some restaurants are offering specials on their food.
The event is Saturday at the Cannon Center at 7 p.m.
Doyle says they expect to make about $120,000 dollars in ticket sales, all of which will pay for the event.
