MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The mother of a man who disappeared from East Memphis last week says his body had been found, and a suspect has been charged with his murder.
According to police, Shaun Hamblen left the LA Fitness in the area of Poplar and Perkins last week. That was the last time anyone saw him. His car was later discovered at 530 Oak Court Drive.
Shortly after that, police released photos of a vehicle that Hamblen was seen on surveillance video getting into. Police said that video was taken in the area of Poplar and Perkins as well but didn’t give out a specific location.
Then on Wednesday authorities said they received information that the Focus was parked in the 1300 block of Michigan in Southwest Memphis. Officers located the car, but Hamblen was nowhere to be found, they said.
Two people who were believed to have been in that car when Hamblen disappeared were taken into custody.
According to the affidavit, 21-year-old Alfonzo Amos has been charged with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery in the case.
Amos was discovered as a person of interest soon after Hamblen was reported missing. He was arrested Wednesday in the 1700 block of Edgeburg Lane.
The affidavit says Amos then admitted to being involved in Hamblen’s disappearance and taking items from him. He also stated that the victim had been shot multiple times and died as a result of his injuries.
Meanwhile, police responded Thursday to a report of a body found in the 3600 block of McDuff in the Cherokee area of East Memphis.
The identity of that body has not been released by police, but police called the finding an update in Hamblen’s case.
Hamblen’s mother, in a Facebook post, identified the body as her missing son. “Our worst fears have been confirmed,” she wrote.
The second suspect who was detained has been charged. Police say 22-year-old Deeric Walton has been charged with felony possession of a gun and possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture.
