MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s happened for the fifth time in recent weeks. A man reportedly approached two girls on Raines near Kirby as they were walking home from school Tuesday.
The man, who police said was driving a white Ford F-150, reportedly tried to lure the girls into his truck on two separate occassions in the area between Kirby High School and Kirby Middle School.
“It could’ve been mine’s, my niece, nephew,” said one parent who identified herself as Christy.
Last week a girl in Orange Mound used her backpack to fight off a man who tried to grab her as she was walking home from school.
Before that, there were three cases of men approaching girls in South Memphis, including one who allegedly touched a girl at a bus stop before school.
“I have to be kind of cautious. You be scared, man,” said parent Alex Bell.
In light of these reports, Bell and other parents say they wouldn’t mind having some extra eyes on their children as they walk to and from school.
“Maybe some of the staff or something from the school can come out and make sure those kids or whatever get situated,” said Bell.
Police released few details about Tuesday’s incident and only a very vague description of the suspect.
WREG asked Shelby County Schools if any of its students were involved in the recent incident, and was told Shelby County School would look into it.
