MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police officer has been relieved of duty following an allegation of domestic assault in Shelby County.
Patrick Hubbard, 27, turned himself in to county authorities Tuesday following a criminal investigation into an incident that allegedly happened while he was off duty, MPD said.
According to the affidavit of complaint, Hubbard and a woman were involved in an argument after they couldn’t find their infant son’s nose suction device. The woman said she picked up the child and told Hubbard she was going to look for it, and that’s when the suspect got into her face and pushed her.
The victim also told police Hubbard grabbed her around the throat and began choking her.
Once he let go, she told him she was going to call police and he became upset. He allegedly caused her to fall, jumped on top of her and then began trying to hit her. The woman told police the child was still in her arms at this point and was hit during the encounter.
The woman sustained injuries to the left side of her neck and a possibly broken thumb. Both she and the child are expected to be okay.
Police told WREG Hubbard was hired by the Memphis Police Department in August of 2015 and is assigned to the Organized Crime Unit.
“No law enforcement officer is above the law,” Police Director Michael Rallings said. “If an officer violates the law, they will face the consequences. This administration expects all officers to conduct themselves ethically, honestly and with integrity both on and off-duty.”
