MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The charges against a Memphis police officer accused of shoplifting have been dismissed.
Officer Wayne Jeffrey, 54, was issued a citation for misdemeanor theft, Memphis police said. They said Millington Police advised them of the citation Dec. 8.
According to the police report, an associate at Walmart called police after he said he witnessed a man remove items from the shelf and conceal them on his person. The man then walked out of the store with the associate behind him.
The police report indicates the suspect stole two memory cards and two wall charges with cables. A list of these items along with video of the incident were provided to police.
On Tuesday, Jeffrey appeared in court and the charges were dismissed.
Jeffrey was hired by the Memphis Police Department in August of 2015 and is currently assigned to the Air Support Unit, MPD said. He was relieved of duty and is on non-enforcement status.
This is an ongoing investigation, police said.
