Memphis students host mayoral forum

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — They may be too young to vote, but local students still want to play a part in the decision of who leads their city.

High school students from the Raleigh-Frayser area hosted the Memphis Youth Mayoral Forum on Saturday to interact with mayoral candidates Mayor A C Wharton, Harold Collins, Jim Strickland and Mike Williams.

“If we’re going to build a better Memphis, it’s imperative that the young people who will help build it be involved in the process,” Shelby County Schools Board Member Stephanie Love said. “Let’s put them in a position where they can ask questions of the leaders who represent their community.”

The students organized the event and served as moderators and panelists.

Memphis Business Academy, Martin Luther King, Jr. College Preparatory High School, Raleigh-Egypt High School, Trezevant High School and Northside High School participated in the event.
