MEMPHIS, Tenn. — May 12 is now officially B.B. King Day!

Memphis Mayor A C  Wharton made the announcement on Monday and said he encouraged the community to show support for the ailing blues legend.

According to the news release, while King rests in his Las Vegas home, the city will be showering him with cheer by sending him thousands of cards, messages and tributes to help him “shake the blues”.

“When you’re not feeling your best, one of the best things anyone can do is to remind you just how much you are loved and appreciated,” said Wharton. “Today we hope to kick off a love fest pointed in the direction of the King of the Blues. This is about his music; it’s about his legacy, and also it’s about a city that will forever be indebted to him.”

The mayor is scheduled to film a social media video message for the musician May 12 at 9 a.m. outside of the B.B. King Blues Club, and then signing a giant Get Well Soon card on display outside.

He encouraged every Memphian to come sign the card or send in your own.

All you have to do is send in or drop off your letter at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library starting May 12, through May 18.

Twitter messages, videos and other online tributes can reach him at #Bealestreetbluesboy.
