CHICAGO, Ill. — She now has the liver that should save her life, but 2-year-old Brooklyn Farris has been wanting a little something extra since her surgery.
“She’s been asking for donuts every day since the morning that we went down for transplant. So, I picked her up some on the way over to the hospital today,” Jesse Faris, Brooklyn’s mom, said.
Brooklyn’s parents adopted her from China, already knowing she would eventually need a liver transplant to survive.
Over FaceTime, her mom, Jesse, told WREG she is making remarkable progress.
They even hope to be discharged from the hospital next week.
But it will still be a while before she can come home.
“We are required to stay here in Chicago through the end of the month for close monitoring,” Faris said.
In the meantime, friends are coming up with new ways to raise money to help the family.
Close family friend John Carroll said, “They’re in Chicago where Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was shot.”
Hence, “Save Faris” t-shirts that they are selling.
It’s a play on words using Brooklyn’s last name.
Her parents said they are humbled by the community’s response; a community that has rallied together to “Save Faris.”
Jesse Faris said, “She surely is our darling, and I’m so glad to know Memphis loves her as well.”
The goal is to raise $75,000.
They still have about $15,000 to go.
