MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman was indicted Thursday in the death of 59-year-old Curtis Echols.
WREG first reported on the accident when it happened on March 29, 2014.
According to Memphis Police, Curteria Leuellyn, 22, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Deadrick near Hugenot when she lost control of the car, jumped a curb, and struck a chain link fence.
The car continued through the fence, hitting Echols, dragging him a short distance.
Witnesses told Police that was when Leuellyn drove over Echols’ body and sped away.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
WREG reported the owner of the hit and run vehicle later contacted Police advising that the car had been loaned to two individuals.
When the vehicle was returned, the owner noticed fresh damage to the car and contacted police.
Leuellyn was taken into custody the very next day and admitted to authorities she was the driver of the car.
She was indicted on vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, vehicular homicide involving recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license charges.
She was released on a $30,000 bond.
