MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Zoo was vandalized with spray paint, according to a spokesperson with the zoo.

The reported vandalism included spray-painted messages that read “**** the Zoo” and “Save the Greensward” on the main parking lot, the Memphis Zoo sign near the Levitt Shell and a set of alligator gates.

The Memphis Zoo said it has cleaned the paint and is filing a police report.

There have been other instances of vandalism recently at the zoo.

While it is not clear who vandalized the sign, tensions have been rising between the zoo and those who are unhappy with the Greensward being used for overflow parking.
