CORDOVA, Tenn. — The two men found dead over the weekend in a Cordova park have been positively identified.

According to police, Jereme Jones and Devonte Taylor were already dead by the time first responders made it to Fletcher Creek Park on Dexter Road park early Saturday morning.

Friends confirmed this is Jereme Jones, one of the 19-year-old killed in Cordova this weekend. (submitted)

The 19-year-olds were found shot inside a car in the parking lot, police said.

“Just a couple days ago I was hanging out with him.”

Jeremy Phillips told WREG he went to school with Jones. He said he liked to play basketball and was well known to those who live in the neighborhood.

“He was real cool, humble. Just a cool person to be around,” he added. “Both of them were cool guys, I could call them whenever. They would do anything for me.”

Another former classmate, who did not want to be identified, said sadly this isn’t the first time he’s lost a friend at such a young age.

“It’s crazy cause I’m just 18 and I have a couple friends that died already.”

So far detectives have not released a motive for the shooting or information about the person who pulled the trigger.

While it’s heartbreaking for these young men, people who frequent the park told WREG they plan to be alert the next time they visit.
