HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — They asked “trick or treat,” but these four men in Helena-West Helena only had one of those two in mind: trick.

Police said the men had knocked on the door of the home in the 200 block of North 4th Street at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The homeowner opened the door, expecting to be handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters, police said. Instead, one of the men pulled out a gun, and they forced their way into the home.

Two of the men pointed their weapons at the wife as the group attempted to rob the couple, said Helena-West Helena Police Chief Virgil Green. The husband, who was sitting in a recliner, pulled his own weapon out from the chair and fired a shot.

The shot did not hit anyone, but after it was fired the four suspects all fled from the house. While running, they dropped a shotgun and a rifle, which police recovered.

The homeowners were not injured.

Police are still investigating this incident and are working on getting a description of the suspects.
