Mid-South Businesses See Sales Spike on “Small Business Saturday”

(Memphis) Today, the Thanksgiving shopping mania continued with “Small Business Saturday.”

Mom-and-pop shops across the Mid-South offered deep discounts hoping to convince customers to shop local.

Loyal customers showed their support in the Cooper Young neighborhood.

“I don’t go anywhere else. This is my spot. I’m not going to Starbucks,” said one customer.

American Express created the day four years ago when the economy was hurting. They hoped to encourage people to shop locally and help their neighborhood grow.

Some business owners said their sales spiked. One of the biggest turnouts they’ve seen yet.

Last year, customers spent $4.5 billion on “Small Business Saturday.” nationwide.
