Mid-South families took advantage of their snow day

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — Schools and businesses were closed across the Mid-South Friday.

Parents took their kids to the park for snowball fights while some went to museums and movies.

“I’m going to the park, because there are two playgrounds there and a big grass hill, and we can go sledding there,” said 9-year-old Emory Miller.

She and other children seemed to be most excited about Friday’s winter blast.

Parents took their children to parks where they could sled, make snow angels and snow cream.

WREG spoke to a father of six kids. He bundled them up and walked to an open field in their Germantown neighborhood to have a snow ball fight.

Other parents took the fun inside.

The Children’s Museum of Memphis decided to open when they learned the weather wasn’t as bad as expected.

Dozens of families spent the day there.

“I called at 10 this morning to ensure they were open,” said mother Ketara Gray.

She and her husband figured it would be an educational experience for their toddler.

“When I looked and saw my street was clear, I took a chance of hope,” she said.

Small amount or not, families found a way to take advantage of the snow.
