(Jackson, TN) A long-time Jackson police officer has been indicted on charges he stole money from a passenger during a traffic stop.

Robbie Weems is charged with theft and official misconduct.

In October, investigators say Officer Weems pulled over a car at 2021 North Highland Avenue in Madison County. Weems claimed the car did not have headlights.

According to police, Weems conducted a pat down of the passenger and removed $200 from the man’s pocket.

The driver was ticketed for not having a license.

Weems was indicted Wednesday and surrendered Thursday morning. He has been released on $10,000 bond.

He will be formally arraigned in Madison County Circuit Court on February 4th.

Officer Weems has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation. He has been with the Jackson Police Department since 1993.
