Mid-South Store Owner Arrested on Gambling Charges

(Forrest City, AR) The owner of a Forrest City convenience store is accused of running a gambling operation out of his shop.

Sung Gyoon Moon is charged in an investigation that began back in July.

During a raid this summer, investigators found seven gaming machines inside the Superstop in Forrest City.

Police say Moon had been paying out cash awards to players on those machines.

That is a violation of state law.

Chief E. P. Reynolds of the Forrest City Police Department had this to say about the arrest:

“These gaming machines are intended to be used for amusement purposes only, for the enjoyment of our citizens.  The payout of cash awards changes it from amusement to gambling, which is illegal in the state of Arkansas.  I appreciate the work of Det. Sgt. Payne and Det. Sgt. McNutt in this case.  This will put other gaming machine operators in Forrest City on notice that the FCPD will investigate and prosecute those gaming machine operators who choose to break the law.”
