(Stanton, TN) The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a 2-year-old in Tipton County.

Cathlena Hillard was hit by a pickup truck Saturday afternoon in the 700 block of Charleston-Mason Road.

Investigators say it happened when the child stepped into the road.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office, which is helping investigate the incident, says three children were playing in a yard when a baby in the home began to cry.

The mother, Ginger Hillard, went inside to check on the infant and “moments later heard squealing tires in the roadway.”

The driver was not ticketed.

The other two children were unharmed.

The highway patrol says possible charges are pending in the case.
